CHAPEL MUSIC

In July of 2025, three Humans took residence at the old Convent of Saint Francis in Montemor-o-Novo, Portugal. Our hosts, Oficinas do Convento, gave us pretty much unrestricted access to all those rooms in the convent, one of them harbouring a literal pile of instruments, another of them an ex-chapel.

We put these two together by performing music with some of the instruments we found, playing also with the natural reverb of the chapel. We tested multiple instruments, having ended up with two drums (one of them played with a massage gun), a bucket bass, a saz, a xylophone and multiple percussions and whistles. We also fed the sound of the microphones to a laptop, which was processed and put back into the room through a speaker, to be once again captured by those same microphones.
