About

Jam With Humans is a mission-based collective, meaning that our reason for existence is rooted on our wish to influence the future of the music industry with the proposal of a certain approach to music creation. We’ve found that the words that best summarise it are “avant-garde” and “inclusive”.

Avant-garde (and other aesthetic values)

  • Music is a reflection of the social-economical and political environment of its time, and we acknowledge that when creating music.
  • Music is an ever-expanding art, and therefore there is “new music” to be “discovered”, building upon the work that other artists have previously.
  • We focus on music that is to be performed for an audience, and we acknowledge that there there are artistic elements associated with performing music (theatrical, visual, literary…).

Inclusion (and other political values)

  • Audiences must be taken in consideration and respected when performing music – we ask for and listen to feedback, seek ways to reach a diversity of people with our music, and are considerate of the audience’s time.
  • Music is a vehicle for self-expression and communication; every human is able to create music, and we seek to find the ways in which each musician feels most comfortable in expressing themselves through music.
  • There is no inherent universal musical language or system, and we attempt to educate ourselves in all the ways that humans organised sounds in order to express themselves, while attempting to ignore any hegemony of certain languages and systems.
