Fancy Dress Party to Release Debut Album at Amsterdam Concert

Amsterdam, NL – September 15, 2026

Free jazz trio Fancy Dress Party are releasing their debut album “You’re Cordially Invited” at a launch concert on the 23rd of September 2026, at Splendor in Amsterdam. The seven-track album showcases the band’s playful approach to contemporary music, which has its roots in an actual fancy-dress costume – specifically, a banana.

“After seeing over and over how people think of contemporary music – worst of all, improvised jazz – as circumspect and elitist, I just decided to perform at our concert wearing a silly costume ,” says Daniel Ferrer, the trio’s drummer. “All of a sudden, I found the audience were thrilled and really connected to the show. They could hear what I heard: music that is playful and doesn’t take itself so seriously.”

That experience ultimately led to the formation of Fancy Dress Party. Since 2024, Albert H C Manders (flute), Anastasiya Byachkova (cello) and Daniel (by night) (drums) have developed a musical language built around close listening, spontaneous interaction and a willingness to follow an idea wherever it leads.

The result is You’re Cordially Invited: a debut album that immortalises the live energy of their 2025 Cinetol concert. That same energy will be on show at Splendor, where the trio will be joined by a number of other musicians, because what’s a party without guests? This night they’re joined by Robert Dubois (bass saxophone) and special guest River Adomeit (double bass). Designer Nicolas Raspail will be hand-drawing the album covers live, giving the audience the chance to buy a one-of-a-kind vinyl edition of the record.
