Amsterdam, NL – April 24, 2025
Starting Sunday, May 11th, Jam With Humans will officially relaunch its flagship show Humans And Friends at The Parlour Amsterdam— bringing live, avant-garde, inclusive music, open audience participation, and a space for spontaneous creation and conversation, in a format that defies traditional performance.
Every live show is a shared experience that changes every week—with exciting new music you won’t see anywhere else.
A new show where it all comes together
After experimenting with a range of live show formats over the past years, Jam With Humans is now combining the best of all of them all into one concept. The rebooted Humans And Friends will feature live composition, game-show antics, student showcases, guest performances, interviews, and interactive jams—all under a single, unpredictable Sunday night gathering.
“At some point we thought ‘wait a minute, why are we making this so complicated?’” says Jam With Humans founder Daniel Matias Ferrer—who on stage goes by Daniel (by night). ”This should be one show. It should be a weekly appointment where you get to listen to the music of our Orchestra, our students or our friends, join us on stage (if you feel like it), and have chats about creating music and surviving in the music industry.”
The rebooted Humans And Friends will be in constant evolution by design. The format and energy shift week to week, keeping the show fresh for first-timers and regulars alike.
“Every show is going to be different,” Daniel adds. “You might see musicians play musical games for points, hear a brand-new piece who was just composed, or sit down for a chat with a guest who’s currently touring in Europe. Something is sure, you’ll never see the same show twice.”
Come and play
Keeping in line with the community-driven ethos of Jam With Humans, every Humans And Friends is a collaboration between performers and audience members, who are encouraged to bring an instrument and join on stage for portions of the show, as well as speaking their mind during the segments of the show dedicated to asking for feedback and questions from the audience.
“There will always be a moment where the audience can jump in. That’s the point,” says Daniel. “You’re not just watching—you’re making the night happen with us.”
Everyone is welcome at the Parlour
Jam With Humans’s belief in maintaining low fences around contemporary music, for both musicians and audiences, extends to how they market this show. For Humans And Friends shows at the Parlour Amsterdam, there are no tickets and no barriers—just walk in, grab a seat, and be part of the night. Whether you’re a professional musician, a music student, a curious listener, or just passing by, you’re welcome to seat, listen and even participate. The shows are pay-what-you-want, which means that if you can, you’re asked to chip in to helps the Humans continuing their work. However, if your income doesn’t allow you to contribute, you’re enthusiastically welcome to come anyway.
Their shows are performed in tight symbiosis with the Parlour Amsterdam, whose core values of “music, community, empathy”—written in large letters right at the entrance—could easily be used as an alternative tagline for Jam With Humans. It’s across those letters that Humans And Friends is seen overflowing past the stage, in the form of the Jam With Humans Tiny Gallery, where one single piece of art handcrafted by a local artist is being displayed, doubling as a poster promoting the show. A limited run (numbered and signed) of these posters is available for purchase at the show, and once half the run is sold, a new poster will be commissioned from another artist, who will have no other guidelines in its creation than featuring the title of the show. Avoiding an aggressive and intrusive promotional style, and instead opting for a classy and also fun way to pull passers-by into their world is yet another way in which the Humans keep within their values through everything related with this re-imagination of their weekly shows.
